John Finger Art is my way of interacting with that which I find fascinating about life. It enables me to share the beauty of a unique moment. My building blocks are the interplay of abstract elements together with the impression of light through watercolor, which is a medium with a life of its own. I learned to paint at art school when Photo Realism was in vogue during the 1970's. After many large canvases using thinned oil glazes and poisoning myself with the vapors, I found watercolor to be a medium that fit my needs as an artist. I find the challenge, flexibility and spontaneity of watercolor makes it my preferred medium. John is a native of the San Francisco Bay Area's Diablo Valley and graduated from the California College of Arts and Crafts (CCA) in Oakland in 1977. He has traveled extensively around the world from Europe to Asia visiting art centers and collections, drawing from the works of the masters at these sites, and sketching and painting areas of interest and natural beauty. Although John is best known for his California landscapes, he continues to work on other studio and plein air paintings including the figure, still life, and anything else that needs painting. Currently, John exhibits, teaches classes, and holds workshops in Northern California. John resides and has his studio in Walnut Creek, CA where he does fine art, commercial illustration and design.
