Bruce Botts Bruce Botts was born and raised in St. Louis Missouri. He moved to California in the mid seventies. He was a practicing photographer for many years, but became tired of the technical process involved as well as socially becoming isolated (always in the dark room). Although Bruce has never taken a drawing class, he would prefer it that way. If he were taught to draw a certain way, he may lose his spontaneous, naive and, not to mention, whimsical style. Bruce likes to explore the different techniques involved with printmaking such as salt lift and sugar lift, as well as dry point all done on an etching plate. He also will hand color his etchings with watercolor or colored paper. Bruce comments about his work, "My ideas are like sausages: you may be better off not knowing where they come from or what they are made of. My prints are a romantic notion of life and love between women, men and other creatures, full of hope and joy and funny kind of strangeness.
